Why We Changed Our Branding

The phrase ‘kill your darlings’ isn’t just a slightly uncomfortable idiom reminding us that nothing should be sacred in the creative process. It’s also an essential motto when it comes to growing a business.

There are lots of reasons why you might not want to update your website design, or overhaul the branding you feel like you just got finished paying for, or change your google ads agency who are just about scraping a 1.7x ROI each month.

You might love your current website, packaging or logo, you may even love your PPC ads manager, but if they aren’t getting you to your growth goals, and that doesn’t look like changing any time soon, then I’m afraid it’s time to kill your darlings.

That is exactly what we did.

We’re a 'practice what we preach' Full Service Marketing Agency. A 'money where our mouth is' sort of outfit. A 'do as I say, AND as I do' crew.

You get the picture.

We would never recommend a strategy we wouldn’t try ourselves.

We had a website that we liked, and that some of us loved, built on a platform that we, as a team, were all comfortable with and with a brand aesthetic that was bright, fun and vibrant.

The results were good, however, we don't settle for just good. We saw steady growth in new clients over a 6-12 month period… but we knew that we could do better.

We’re not  satisfied with ‘fine’ or ‘good-enough’ if we know we can get to ‘great’ or ‘amazing’.

We looked through everything we’d built for MTHD, hunting for any friction points between us and our business goals.

Over the following month we made big changes.

We switched from WordPress to Webflow to allow for complete design freedom, so we can deliver straight from our imaginations with no constraints.

We redesigned the entire website from the ground up, creating a sleeker, more intuitive experience that better showcased our services and the high quality of our case studies.

Lastly, we gave our branding a refresh, swapped the poppy red for a more sophisticated yet engaging orange, updated our brand fonts, imagery and client facing materials.

We even gave our ads a facelift.

The week we launched our new website featuring the updated look & feel, new client leads flooded in like never before. Each week we have more quality leads than the previous, all because of our updated branding and website. This showed us what we already knew. Although we were content with our old branding, website and paid ads, we knew we could be better.

And even though we had launched the previous branding and website not so long ago, and a rebrand costs time, money and effort the results have paid their way back in gold.

Are you holding on to old methods and designs that are slowing you down or even holding back your growth?

Do you have an outdated branding package you are holding on to because it was expensive? But deep down you know it’s keeping you from your goals…Or a lumbering website that baffles your customers? Or even a once mighty ad campaign that is now missing the mark? Then it’s time to be bold, be brave and to kill your darlings, just like we have, and really kick your business up a gear.
